SLD Plotter: Automatic Single Line Diagrams for 11kV Distribution Feeders

The SLD Plotter is Chief Consultant Pakistan's premium engineering tool for automatically generating single line diagrams of 11kV and other medium voltage distribution feeders. We seamlessly process your .MDB file into an accurate, node labelled single line diagram in minutes, removing the need to manually trace feeder topology from a database or a field survey. Built for distribution engineers working with 11kV and MV feeders, the tool is equally valid for engineers anywhere in the world, not only in Pakistan, wherever detailed GIS mapping is unavailable and a fast, accurate line diagram is still needed for planning, load flow studies, or hosting capacity analysis.

Access to the SLD Plotter is credentialed. As a premium tool, login credentials are issued directly by our team to verified engineers and organisations, anywhere in the world. To request access, get in touch with us here and we will set up your account.

How the SLD Plotter Reads Your Network Data

The SLD Plotter is calibrated to work directly with two data sources that are already common across Pakistan's electrical engineering community, so you do not need to convert your data into a special format before using it.

The first is a Synergi Electric Microsoft Access database, saved as an .mdb file. Synergi Electric is widely used by DISCOs and consultants for feeder modelling and load flow analysis, and its underlying database stores every node, conductor, transformer, and connection point in the network. The SLD Plotter connects directly to this .mdb structure, reads the coordinate and connectivity data already stored inside it, and generates the single line diagram automatically without any manual redrawing.

The second accepted format is a DBF III export from FDRANA, our feeder analysis and network builder software, saved as an .xlsx file. If your feeder data originates from FDRANA rather than Synergi Electric, you can export it in this format and upload it directly. The plotter reads the same underlying node and conductor information from this file structure and produces an equivalent single line diagram, so you are not locked into a single data source.

In both cases, the tool applies automatic coordinate based layout, meaning it positions nodes and feeder segments according to their actual recorded coordinates rather than a generic template, so the resulting diagram reflects the real geometry and structure of your feeder.

What the Generated Diagram Shows

The SLD Plotter keeps its output deliberately simple and readable, focused purely on the information a distribution engineer actually needs when reviewing a feeder.

Every node in the feeder is clearly labelled with its node number, matching the numbering already used in your Synergi Electric or FDRANA dataset. This makes it easy to cross reference the diagram against your load flow results or design book without renumbering anything by hand.

Each conductor segment is labelled with its conductor type directly above the line, so you can see at a glance whether a section is running on ACSR, AAAC, or another standard conductor size used on Pakistan's 11kV network. Below the same line, the plotter shows the conductor length, giving you the physical span of that segment without needing to check a separate table. This above the line, below the line labelling convention keeps the diagram readable even on feeders with a large number of nodes, since the two most important electrical properties of each segment sit right next to the segment itself.

Why Visualize a Feeder Without GIS Data

Not every consultant or DISCO office has access to a full GIS platform for every feeder, and building one from scratch for a single study is rarely worth the time or cost. The SLD Plotter fills this gap by generating an accurate, coordinate based single line diagram directly from data you likely already have, whether that is a Synergi Electric model or an FDRANA export, without needing any GIS layer underneath it.

This makes it particularly useful during hosting capacity analysis for new solar net metering connections, EVCS placement studies, or general feeder planning, where you need to see the network structure quickly to make a decision rather than waiting on a full geographic information system project to be set up first.

Who Uses the SLD Plotter

This tool is built for the people who work with 11kV and medium voltage distribution feeders every day. DISCO planning engineers use it to quickly visualize a feeder before approving a new connection. Independent consultants use it while preparing design books and hosting capacity reports, since a clear single line diagram is often a required submission document. Engineering students and junior staff use it to understand how a real feeder is structured, since seeing an actual labelled diagram makes feeder topology far easier to grasp than reading a spreadsheet of coordinates.

How to Use the Tool

Using the SLD Plotter is straightforward. Upload your Synergi Electric .mdb file or your FDRANA DBF III .xlsx export using the tool below, let it process the node and conductor data, and download the generated single line diagram once it is ready. No manual drawing or coordinate entry is required at any step.

Frequently Asked Questions

What file formats does the SLD Plotter accept?

The tool accepts a Synergi Electric Microsoft Access database file with the .mdb extension, or a DBF III export from FDRANA saved as an .xlsx file.

Do I need GIS data to use this tool?

No. The SLD Plotter generates the single line diagram directly from the coordinate and connectivity data already stored in your Synergi Electric or FDRANA file, so no separate GIS layer is required.

What voltage level is this tool designed for?

The SLD Plotter is built specifically for 11kV and other medium voltage distribution feeders, which is the voltage level most common across Pakistan's DISCO networks.
